From 2004-14, he appeared on various Canadian television shows, including the business news programmes SqueezePlay and The Lang and O'Leary Exchange, as well as the reality television shows Dragons' Den and Redemption Inc.
O'Leary co-founded SoftKey Software Products, a technology company that sold software geared toward family education and entertainment. During the late 1980s and 1990s, SoftKey acquired rival companies such as Compton's New Media, The Learning Company and Brøderbund.
In 2017 he campaigned to be the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada. He was a frontrunner in the polls during much of that time, but dropped out in April 2017, one month before the election, citing a lack of support in Quebec.

O’Leary co-founded SoftKey products, a technological innovation organization that marketed software designed toward family education and learning and enjoyment. Later in 1980’s and 90’s, SoftKey obtained competing organizations such as Compton’s New Press, The Learning Company and Brøderbund. The Learning Company was the later modified name by him, and was obtained by Mattel in 1999, with the sale making O’Leary a multimillionaire. 
O’Leary was soon shot by Mattel after buying resulted in important failures and several investor legal cases. In 2017 he campaigned to be the innovator of the Conservative Party of Canada. He was an innovator in the surveys during much of that time, but decreased out in Apr 2017, 30 days before the election, stating an absence of assistance in Quebec.

In 1979, O’Leary was chosen for an internship at Nabisco in Toronto, between the first and second years of his MBA and then worked well as an assistant product administrator for Nabisco’s cat food product. O’Leary attributes his later achievements at The Learning Organization to the skill-sets he designed in the promotion during his days at Nabisco.After making Nabisco, 
O’Leary started a brief profession as a tv manufacturer. SET created unique activities such as The Original Six, Don Cherry’s Grapevine and Bobby Orr and the Hockey Legends. The organization obtained restricted achievements with minimal reveals on tv, football movies, activities documentaries, and brief in-between-period advertisements for regional expert hockey matches.
